Say “NO'“ to higher electric bills

Efforts by utility monopolies to raise our rates continue. Earlier this year, the  West Virginia Public Service Commission (PSC) declined a request to reconsider its decision to saddle West Virginia consumers with Mitchell power plant costs.

West Virginians for Energy Freedom has asked PSC commissioners to reconsider their decision to require ratepayers to cover the costs for retrofits to keep the Mitchell plant running past 2028. The PSC’s decision unfairly leaves West Virginians solely responsible for bearing those costs.

stop this bad deal for West Virginia families

The PSC’s decision, once again, forces us to pay even more for the already expensive energy generated from the plant. This robs us of the freedom to choose where our energy comes from and use free market sources of electricity.

It is unclear how much West Virginia families will need to pay to keep the plant open. We won’t just need to pay for the electricity it generates. We’ll also need to pay for expensive upgrades to keep the plant open. We’ll pay these costs with higher monthly electric bills.

This fight needs your voice

Luckily, we now have an opportunity to voice our concerns about bad deals like this. The PSC has created the “Task Force to Assure Dependable and  Affordable Electric Supply Recommendations.” The PSC created the task force to address rising energy costs.

Make your voice heard! Tell the task force to Say No to higher energy bills!

File a comment encouraging the task force to:

  1. Include demand-side resources, like solar, in their recommendations to the commission. By doing so, we can actively plan for our future. This will allow us to diversify our economy. It will broaden West Virginia’s economic base.

  2. Use the free market to source less expensive electricity. This will keep us from subsidizing pricey utility-owned power plants.
